8 • Lettera alla Host Family!

Sono di nuovo qui!
No, non sono morta, semplicemente non ho nulla da scrivere dato che non ci sono stati eventi significativi in questo mese e mezzo.
Che dirvi? Riuscirò a partecipare all’orientation!

Dear Host Family,
I can’t believe i’m writing this letter! Just one month ago I was dreaming about my year abroad, and now everything is becoming real!
My dream is finally coming true!

However, my name is S.: it means “princess” in Hebrew, “soul” in Indian and “pure, happy” in Muslim. I’m a fifteen-years-old girl who lives in a big city in South Italy, known as “pizza, sole e mandolino”. Here we have the sun, the sea, and a volcano.

I live with my parents and my sister in a quite big apartment, we have a little garden where sometimes we put a small swimming pool in summer (even if there are always mosquitos!).
My father is F., he’s fifty-seven and he’s an architect and a teacher; my mother is S., she’s forty-nine and she’s an executive; my sister’s name is F., she’s eleven. I also have two fishes and six turtles, which live in the garden.
My family is a little bit strange, but I love it!
My father is like a kid in an adult body, he loves repairing and collecting vintage motorcycles (we have our garage full of them!), and he has an obsession with sailing and Greece: in fact, his dream is living in a small town in Greece when he’ll be older.
My mother has an amazing talent: she can play every song she listens at the piano, even if she doesn’t know the notes. She really loves music, and her dream was being ad important DJ; unfortunately she didn’t succeed, but she still cultivates her passion: sometimes she likes creating songs at the piano, and they’re really amazing!
My sister is unique: she’s really intelligent and outgoing, and she always makes me laugh. Sometimes we quarrel for stupid things, because she’s young and we don’t have common interests, but I’m a landmark for her and she’s always there for me. She’s like my halfway! However, I hope to have a sibling of my age in America, so that I’ll have a big help from him/her with my “new life”!
We spend a lot of time together, especially during the summer, when we rent a sailboat in Greece, and during the winter, when we go skiing in Austria.

My school is quite far from my house, so my mum brings me and my best friend with her car.
I attend the High School in my city, where I study languages: French is the most important subject, because at the end of the High School I’ll get a french degree too; I also study English (obviously) and German.
I don’t mind studying and I’ve never had any problem at school. My favorite subjects are Maths and English, of course.
I would like to continue my studies in France or in the USA, that’s why I’m studying languages; I would like to become an interior designer or an architect, like my father. (My biggest dream is becoming a fashion designer, actually).

Now, the hardest part: talking about myself!
Basically, my character is an oxymoron: I’m shy but also outgoing, I like staying alone but also staying with friends, I’m lazy but also active… I don’t know how I am!
However, I will try to describe myself: I’m very responsible and everybody can count on me. I’m impulsive but not superficial, and maybe that’s the thing I like the most: I’m very spontaneous and genuine with everyone!
I’m very determined and ambitious, so I never give up: that’s why I’ve never had doubt about this experience.
I’m quiet and serious, but also friendly and talkative, and I’m really calm and obedient.
I’ve been doing artistic gymnastic for five years, but now I’ve left. I’ve also been doing sailing for three years, but now I can’t do it anymore because it’s too far from my home… But even if I don’t do any sport anymore, in my free time I like doing exercises to keep fit!
One of my dreams has always been being a cheerleader, so I hope I’ll do it in America!
I also would like to try surf (It must be so funny!), and sometimes I play basketball or volleyball in my school. I really love skiing, it’s maybe one of my favorite sports and I can do it pretty well: I have been able to ski since I was very young.
Music is one of my passions: sometimes I play piano but I’m not very good. I don’t have a favorite genre of music: I like rap, pop, indie, rock… everything! Basically, I spend most of the time listening to music!
I love reading books and watching movies, and often I do it in English.
I also love taking photos and I like when people take photos of me.
I usually go out on Saturdays with my classmates and my best friend: her name is Aurora, and I’ve know her since 2009. I like going to the cinema, or going shopping!
I’m also a scout, and I have to thank this for the person I am now! Being a scout taught me to grow, to improve myself and to give the best.
As a good Italian, I love cooking, especially cakes! Maybe when I’ll be in America I can cook Italian dishes for you, so that you’ll know a little bit of my culture, too!
And, obviously, I love traveling! I want to leave, I want to change my habits and know other cultures.

Anyway, there’s just one thing I’m sure about: I’ll spend this year in the best way I can, because, as I read on the web, “Exchange isn’t a year in your life, it’s a life in a year”: I’m not scared of my choices, and I’m ready to face the world around me.

I wish I’ll feel part of you family, and you’ll be proud of me as your daughter, so this experience won’t be amazing just for me, but also for you.
I have just to say a big, fat, “thank you” if you chose me,
because you’ll make my dreams come true, and you’ll be part of them.
See you soon,

S.

-C'è un minimo di parole da scrivere o si può scrivere tantissimo come poco?
    -si possono allegare delle foto?
